Saranga Disasekara (also spelled Saranga Disasekera), සාරංග දිසාසේකර, is a Sri Lankan actor, singer, model, and television presenter, born on 31 January 1983 in Kalubowila. Best known on screen, he is also the voice behind a run of popular Sinhala love duets, several of them recorded with the singer Umali Thilakaratne.
Saranga Disasekara grew up in a household already rooted in the arts. His father is the singer Narada Disasekara, and his mother is the radio presenter and actress Tileka Ranasinghe. He studied at Thurstan College in Colombo before continuing his education at Northumbria University in Newcastle.
While Saranga Disasekara is widely recognised for his work in teledramas and as a presenter, his recordings sit firmly in the romantic Sinhala pop tradition. Many of his best-known tracks are duets with Umali Thilakaratne, to whom he was married for several years. The two paired on songs that became staples of music-channel rotation, including Husma Sibinnam (හුස්ම සිඹින්නම්), Adare Kathandare, and Nupurudu Wu Adare (නුපුරුදු වූ ආදරේ).
His solo and collaborative releases lean on gentle melodies and direct, sentimental lyrics, the kind of material that travels well among Sri Lankan listeners at home and in the diaspora. Tracks such as Maa Deneth and Nohada Inna Mata reflect that consistent romantic register.
Beyond music, Saranga Disasekara is one of Sri Lanka’s most familiar television actors and a frequent award winner, having taken popular-actor honours at the Sumathi Awards, Raigam Tele’es, and SLIM-Nielsen People’s Awards over more than a decade. He has also hosted the reality singing competition Hiru Star. The Disasekara name (sometimes rendered Disasekera) is now closely tied to both his on-screen roles and his catalogue of duet recordings.
