Mohan Raj (also written Mohanraj) is a Sri Lankan singer associated with Sinhala melodic songs that circulated on radio and Sri Lanka Rupavahini broadcasts. He is known to listeners for the much-covered “Mage Dasama Piyawi” and for romantic ballads in the classic Sinhala style.
Mohan Raj’s best-recognised recording is “Mage Dasama Piyawi”, also titled by its opening line “Katada Meka Kiyanne” and listed elsewhere as “Mage Dasama Piyawee Inne”. The song carries lyrics by Karunarathna Abeysekara and music by R. Muththusami, and it remains a staple on Sinhala chord and lyric collections, which speaks to its lasting popularity among home musicians.
He also recorded “Jeewana Me Gamana Sansare”, a duet performed with the singer Nirosha Virajini. Across these recordings Mohan Raj works in the gentle, melody-led tradition of Sinhala light music rather than film or pop.
