තහනම් වචනය කි ආලේViramayak Lyrics English Translation
Beloved, the past put a pause, stopping both our hearts
that beautiful time we spent as lovers, is it too in your memory?
let it not be unheard, a fragment breaks and trembles, the caged sighs
though I was near, it was you who quietly went a distance away
You, the tender one my heart was bound to,
who became the more loving of us,
the heart that carried a warm rhythm
swayed slowly, was wrapped in love
At the crossroads of an estranged dream,
it was not I who stopped, it was you
strange and unfamiliar, far into the distance,
you had gone, having slipped free of love
The flawless love given in the kiss I once savoured,
a drop of it, you seek within my breast
the feast of love I never invited,
where are you, my lost moon?
I search for a remedy through the three watches of the night
the forbidden word, you called it: love

Viramayak Song Meaning and Interpretation
This is a reflective heartbreak song about a love that came to a “pause,” viramayak, rather than a clean ending. The opening image is precise and painful: “the past put a pause, stopping both our hearts.” She asks whether “that beautiful time we spent as lovers” still lives in the other’s memory, and pleads that it “not be unheard,” even as “the caged sighs” tremble inside her. The tenderest detail is that she was the one who stayed near, while “it was you who quietly went a distance away.”
The middle verses weigh who loved more and who left. She remembers being “the tender one my heart was bound to,” and admits the other “became the more loving of us,” so that her heart, “carrying a warm rhythm,” slowly “swayed and was wrapped in love.” Then, at “the crossroads of an estranged dream,” she is careful to place the blame gently but clearly: “it was not I who stopped, it was you,” who “slipped free of love” and went “far into the distance.”
The ending turns wistful and searching. She recalls “the flawless love given in the kiss I once savoured,” now reduced to “a drop” the other still seeks in her heart, and mourns “the feast of love I never invited,” a love that arrived unbidden and overwhelmed her. She calls the lost one “my lost moon” and says she searches “for a remedy through the three watches of the night,” sleepless, while remembering how the other once dismissed love itself as “the forbidden word.” What the listener is left with is the particular grief of a love left on pause, neither fully alive nor allowed to die, and a heart still waiting at the crossroads for the one who walked away.
