This is a quiet, wounded farewell to a love that was never quite spoken aloud. The opening lines set the ache: “in a place that is no dream,” meaning in real waking life, “you hid your love away,” and “on a day that was for no reason,” his heart “broke into sobs.” Now, from “a past now spent,” he keeps hearing “your words,” and worse, the “words never spoken” that simply “drifted away” before either of them said them. So much of the grief here is about what went unsaid.

The most beautiful and painful image is his place in her life: “in the book of poems you wrote, I am the poem left unwritten.” He was there, loved, present in her heart, and yet never actually put down on the page, a love kept but never declared. He reaches “toward your eyes” with a “plea,” but even in dreams “there is no invitation from you,” no sign to come closer.

So he makes the hard choice the title names. “I am leaving, having made a meaning of you,” having turned her into something he can carry as memory rather than person, and he asks the one thing that will let him heal: “do not come, seeking memories.” The koel crying in the night, the classic Sinhala bird of longing and separation, deepens the loneliness of the moment. What the listener is left with is the soft devastation of walking away from an unspoken love, choosing to keep it as a finished poem rather than reopen it, and gently begging the past not to follow.
