On the cross he gave his life to save me
the streams of blood flowed to set me free
my Jesus loves me
His hands were pierced because of me
his feet were pierced because of me
my Jesus rescued me
he rescued me
my Jesus set me free
he set me free
my Jesus loves me
His head was pierced because of me
his side was pierced because of me

Kurusiyedi Divi Piduwa Song Meaning and Interpretation
This is a short, heartfelt hymn of gratitude for the crucifixion, and its whole message is contained in one repeated word: “me.” On the cross, Jesus “gave his life to save me,” and “the streams of blood flowed to set me free.” The believer does not speak of salvation in the abstract; every wound is personal.
The song moves the eye slowly over the crucified body, naming each wound and its reason. “His hands were pierced because of me, his feet because of me,” and later “his head” and “his side,” recalling the nails, the crown of thorns and the spear. Each line ends the same way, “because of me,” so that the listener feels the weight of a suffering borne on their behalf.
Between these lines runs the simplest possible response of faith, sung over and over: “my Jesus rescued me, he set me free, my Jesus loves me.” That is the entire meaning of the hymn. It looks at the pierced hands, feet, head and side, and reads in them not tragedy but rescue, love proven by wounds, and answers with the quiet, grateful certainty of someone who knows exactly what that death was for.
