A lush, wistful song about a love that is beautiful, everywhere, and forever out of reach. It opens in bloom: love that kisses the deepest depths of the heart and puts out white buds, scattering fragrant pollen over every freshly opened flower. Love here is like spring itself, tender and alive.

Then it lifts into the sky and turns lonely. This love takes possession of the whole plane of the sky, sleeps on a bed of cloud, and drifts aimlessly, kissing the peaks of memory-mountains. And the refrain names its heartbreak plainly: my love who meets me in a dream every night, my love who is not mine to keep. It is vast and constant, yet exists only in dreams.

The last verse sets it in samsara, the endless cycle of lives. They met one day on the journey through samsara, and love was pulled taut at a fork of two roads, two people meeting only to be sent down separate paths. Like a cricket’s chirp that catches and stops at the tip of its beak, the love hangs unfinished, endlessly burning with sorrow.
