Wedima Lyrics
Andata wadaa api paaredi hambunaa
Ahumuluwala api hamadama set unaa
Bench hoya hoya paara puraa thambunaa
Ganda hitiya mage wedimata kelawunaa....
Ape love eka paara puraa hit unaa...
Fb eke man pem kumarek unaa...
Pada ahalama mata hondatama athi unaa...
Bandinna hitiyata api ada wenwunaa...
Aswaha wadilada love eka del unaa
Pani handa peni peni api ada wen unaa..
Ube wedimata ada mata ennata unaa...
Tharu peni peni uba poruwe hinahunaa....
Wedima Lyrics English Translation
More than in any bed, we met out on the road,
in the nooks and corners we always got together,
hunting for benches, we simmered all over the streets,
and the marriage I meant to have got ruined on me….
Our love was a hit all over the road,
on Facebook I became a prince of love,
just hearing your words was more than enough for me,
we meant to marry, and today we have parted….
Did the evil eye strike, that our love turned sour?
watching the honey-moon, today we came apart..
to your wedding, today, I had to come…
gazing up at the stars, you smiled on the poruwa….

Wedima Song Meaning and Interpretation
A bittersweet, wry song about a poor young couple’s street-corner romance that ended at someone else’s, her, wedding. There is a rueful honesty from the first line: more than in any bed, we met out on the road, in nooks and corners and hunting for park benches, the courtship of two people with no money and nowhere private to go. And the verse ends in heartbreak with a shrug: the marriage I meant to have got ruined on me.
The middle catches a very modern love. Their romance was a hit all over the road, and on Facebook, he jokes, he became a prince of love; just hearing her words was enough to make him happy. Then the turn, plain and sad: we meant to marry, and today we have parted.
The last verse lands the real ache under the humour. Did the evil eye strike, he wonders, that our love turned sour? He watches the honey-moon as they come apart, and admits the thing the whole song has been circling: to your wedding, today, I had to come, he attends the wedding of the girl he loved, marrying someone else, and watches her smile up on the poruwa, the wedding altar, gazing at the stars. Written and sung by Sanjeew Lonlies with Chaam, it is a bittersweet, self-mocking song about ordinary young love that ran out of road, and the peculiar pain of being a guest at your ex’s wedding.
