Costa (කොස්ටා), born Prathap Costa and also known as Costa Maarley, is a Sri Lankan rapper, singer, and music producer from Kandy. He emerged in the Sinhala hip-hop scene around 2019 to 2020 with a string of independent releases and is known for self-produced beats and a conversational, free-flowing style of Sinhala rap.
Costa grew up in Kandy, where he spent his early years before moving to Colombo for work and later relocating abroad. He began making music as a member of S1 Crew, a Sinhala alternative group he joined during his school years, before stepping out as a solo artist. Rather than calling himself only a rapper, he describes himself more broadly as an artist who produces beats and sings as well as raps.
His early solo single Nuwara Machang (The Town) drew on his Kandy roots and helped introduce him to a wider audience. In 2020 he released a run of tracks that circulated widely online, including the rap single Corona, which gained traction on social media during that year, and Batanala (බටනලා), whose music video was shot in paddy fields. The same year he featured on Heena Mathe (හීන මතේ) alongside Ravi Jay, with production by iClown.
As Prathap Costa, he has continued to release Sinhala rap and collaborate with other artists in the local hip-hop community, working as both performer and producer.
