Saman Nishantha (also spelled Saman Nishanta), සමන් නිශාන්ත, is a Sri Lankan playback and popular-music singer, best known for performing “Akasa Kusum” (ආකාස කුසුම්), the theme of Prasanna Vithanage’s acclaimed 2008 film of the same name.
Saman Nishantha is most widely associated with the soundtrack of the film Akasa Kusum (“Flowers of the Sky”). He sang the film’s main vocal track, written by lyricist Upul Shantha Sannasgala with music by Ranga Dasanayake, a song that opens with the line “Ma Nuwan Pura Nil Ahasa Wasa”. The track was also released as a promotional music video, and it remains the recording for which Saman Nishantha is best remembered. The song circulates on streaming platforms, including a version that appears on a 2013 compilation release.
Saman Nishantha has also recorded duets, most notably “Manaali” (මනාලී) with Nuwandhi Ranasinghe, a Sinhala adaptation of the popular Tamil film song “En Jeevan”. The pairing of his voice with Ranasinghe’s gave the cover its own following among Sinhala listeners online.
Lyrics-lk presents these Saman Nishanta recordings in the original Sinhala script alongside an English transliteration and translation, so readers can follow the meaning of “Akasa Kusum” and “Manaali” as well as the words.
