A cluster of stars, far, far away, a gift, a gift they were
Angels’ songs, far, far away, can be heard, can be heard
(In this small hut the divine Son shines… //)
Rising on the wind of peace, the whole world grows bright
The sweet world sings as one
A cluster of stars, far, far away, a gift, a gift they were
Angels’ songs, far, far away, can be heard, can be heard
(Forever winning the world from sin… //)
Breaking apart the darkness, bringing blessing to the world
He came as a gift to the world
A cluster of stars, far, far away, a gift, a gift they were
Angels’ songs, far, far away, can be heard, can be heard

Tharaka Samuhayak Song Meaning and Interpretation
This is a Sinhala Christmas carol, a song about the birth of Christ told the way the Nativity story has always been pictured. It opens with a sky full of stars and the faint sound of angels singing somewhere far off, and it treats both the stars and that song as a gift coming down to the earth. In Christian tradition the star over Bethlehem guided the way to the newborn child and the angels sang to announce his birth, so the song is putting the listener under that same sky, hearing that same music drift in from a distance.
The heart of it is the line about the small hut. “මේ කුඩා පැලේ දෙවු පුතුන් දිලේ” means “in this small, humble hut the divine Son is shining.” That is the manger, the lowly stable where Jesus was born, and the word “පැල” (a little thatched shelter, the simplest kind of dwelling a Sri Lankan listener pictures) carries the whole point of the story, that God arrived not in a palace but in the poorest of places. The light is not a lamp; it is the child himself, shining in the dark.
From there the song widens out. On a “wind of peace” the brightness spreads until the whole world lights up and sings together in one voice (ඒකනාද, all sounding as one). The second verse names what this birth is for, to win the world back from sin (පවු භවින්) and to break apart the darkness and bring blessing and well-being (සෙත) to everyone. The closing thought is the simplest and the warmest: “ආපි ලොවට තිළිණයක් වුනා,” he came to the world as a gift. Across the song the same word for gift (තිළිණ) keeps returning, first the stars, then the song, and finally the child, so by the end the listener understands that the real gift the night is offering is the child in the hut. It leaves you with the quiet, hopeful feeling of Christmas: light arriving in the dark, and the whole earth singing because of it.
