A young man has fallen hard for a girl, and he cannot get her out of his head. He opens by reaching for an unusual image to describe her: she is like an apple blossom in spring. In Sri Lanka apples are not a local fruit, they are imported and a little special, so calling her an apple flower marks her out as something rare and fresh, lovely in the way a new season is lovely. He says she came to him almost by accident, the kind of meeting that feels like luck, and right away he wants to carry her, and his whole heart, off with him.

From there the feeling gets warmer and more restless. He talks about a warmth like fire and asks her to rise into the reach of his eyes, so that even just seeing her is enough to comfort him. Then the nights take over. In the rough hours when his eyes close, the dark feels like it is being cut into pieces, and his trembling heart is left pleading for love. He even wishes that if anything survived from a past life into this one, it would be just this, just her presence following him around. That is how completely she has taken over his thoughts.
