Under a canopy of cracked, streaky clouds
On a carpet of soft tar
Let’s go, let’s go, let’s go, let’s walk together, my love
The dance of motor cars chasing in from all four sides
Slipping past the crowd
All around, careful now,
The electric eyes wink and smile
Let’s go without being fooled
(We’ve made it across the yellow line)…//
Under a canopy of cracked, streaky clouds
On a carpet of soft tar
Let’s go, let’s go, let’s go, let’s walk together, my love
The dance of motor cars chasing in from all four sides
Slipping past the crowd
The crowned lords of the line of cars
Wave their hands like kings
Let’s go with our eyes on the ground
(The yellow line has gone all wavy too)…//
Under a canopy of cracked, streaky clouds
On a carpet of soft tar
Let’s go, let’s go, let’s go, let’s walk together, my love
The dance of motor cars chasing in from all four sides
Slipping past the crowd
Under a canopy of cracked, streaky clouds
On a carpet of soft tar
Let’s go, let’s go, let’s go, let’s walk together, my love
Let’s go, let’s go, let’s go, let’s walk together, my love
Let’s go, let’s go, let’s go, let’s walk together, my love

Iri Thalunu Wala Song Meaning and Interpretation
A young man takes the girl he loves by the hand and walks her straight through the middle of the city. That is the whole picture here, two people in love crossing a busy road, and the song turns that ordinary, slightly risky moment into something joyful and a little cheeky. Over and over he says it, “yamu yamu yamu,” let’s go, let’s go, come on, let’s walk, with the eagerness of someone who just wants to keep moving as long as she is beside him.
What makes the song special is how it dresses up the grubby city street as if it were a royal scene. The sky of cracked, streaky clouds becomes a canopy stretched overhead, the way an awning is held over a king. The plain black tar of the road becomes a soft carpet under their feet. The cars rushing in from all four directions are not a danger to dodge so much as a dance, a moving spectacle they pass through together while slipping past the crowd. Even the traffic lights get a romantic twist, their glowing red and green bulbs become “electric eyes” that wink and smile at the couple, as if the whole city is in on their secret and cheering them along.
The little lines in brackets carry the real wit. “We’ve made it across the yellow line” and “the yellow line has gone all wavy” are about the painted markings on a Sri Lankan road, the pedestrian crossing and lane lines. Crossing that line safely becomes a small triumph, and by the next verse the lines seem to ripple and blur, the way the ground swims a little when you are walking dizzy with love and not really watching where you step. In the second verse the drivers stuck in the line of traffic are crowned like kings waving from their thrones, while the lovers, told to keep their eyes down and just keep going, are the ones who actually own the moment.
There is no heartbreak in this one, no longing, just the bright, slightly giddy feeling of being young and in love in a noisy city, turning honking cars and red lights and tar roads into a private little kingdom you walk through hand in hand. It leaves you smiling, because anyone who has ever crossed a busy street holding the hand of someone they love knows exactly that feeling of the whole world fading into background noise.
