Jeewithe Tharuna Kale

Jeewithe Tharuna Kale Lyrics English Translation
The young days of life never stay the same
I am searching all the time for what I dreamed of, what I longed for
To taste love the way I want it
I go about freely, the way a bee circles the flowers
Joy and sorrow come to me just the same
in this endless, beautiful flower garden of a life
The young days of life…
Like a lamp burning in the thick dark of night
I keep going through the troubles, taking in the sweetness of the world
The sky and the ground are my home
There is not one thing I put my trust in
The young days of life…

Jeewithe Tharuna Kale Song Meaning and Interpretation
A young man is talking about his own youth while he is still living it, and he knows from the first line that it will not last. The young season of life does not stay put, so he spends every waking hour chasing after the things he has imagined and wished for. That mix of hunger and hurry is the whole mood of the song.
The picture he reaches for in the first verse is the bambara, the bumblebee that moves from bloom to bloom in a garden. In Sinhala song that bee is the standing image of a young man going through the world tasting whatever it offers, never tied down for long, and here he claims it happily. Life itself is the garden, endless and lovely, and he wanders it as freely as the bee does. What makes the line honest is the admission tucked beside it: in that garden joy and sorrow arrive on him equally. He is not asking for only the sweet flowers. He takes both and keeps walking.
The second verse turns the light down. Now he is a small lamp burning in a thick night, which is how a Sri Lankan listener hears a person keeping himself going through hard times with very little. Difficulties are all around him, and he still stops to taste what the world has to offer. Then comes the line that gives the song its edge, that the sky and the ground are his home. He has no walls, no settled place, and he says it without complaint. It is the freedom of a man with nothing to lose and the loneliness of one too, held in the same breath.
He closes by saying he puts his trust in no single thing. Coming after the bee and the open sky, that is not bitterness so much as a rule he has learned early. Nothing in this young season holds still long enough to lean on, so he keeps moving, taking the sweet and the bitter as they come. What stays with you at the end is that lightness with something serious underneath it, a young man enjoying his time and aware, even as he enjoys it, that it is already passing.
