Beth Lehem Pure Lyrics
Bethlehem pure Dilindu gawalene
Oruwa thule Sisile nidai Jesu bilin da //
Lelena kan didee Amuthu tharuwakee //
Maga ahagena yathi dekumata Jesu Bilin da //
Satawetha Karuna Pinimen Galana //
Andura medin Eliya mawai Jesu Bilin da /Beth Lehem Pure Lyrics English Translation
In Bethlehem, in a poor cattle shed,
inside a manger, baby Jesus sleeps in the cold.
A strange star shimmers in the sky,
and asking the way, they go to see baby Jesus.
Mercy flows out for every living being,
out of the darkness, baby Jesus brings the light.

Beth Lehem Pure Song Meaning and Interpretation
This is a Sinhala Christmas carol that retells the night Jesus was born. It sets the familiar nativity scene in plain, gentle words: a poor cattle shed in Bethlehem, a baby asleep in a feeding trough on a cold night, and the people drawn there to see him. There is no romance or longing here, just the quiet wonder of the story Christians sing every December.
The carol leans on a couple of warm images. The “strange star” shimmering in the sky is the Star of Bethlehem, the sign that guided the shepherds and the wise men to the newborn child, so the line about asking the way and going to see him carries that whole journey of pilgrims following the light. The picture of mercy “flowing” for every living being is the heart of the song, the idea that this birth pours out compassion on all the world, not just a few.
The closing line is the one that lands. Out of the darkness, the child himself becomes the light. It is a simple way of saying what the season means to believers: that into a cold, dark world a small helpless baby arrives and brings hope, and that is why people still gather to sing about a manger in Bethlehem.
