In the dream of saṃsāra (the cycle of rebirth) I stood waiting on the path ahead, when will you come?
With half-closed eyes you gave love like a rainbow, you, my prince
In the dream of saṃsāra, you, my prince
You, my prince…
Come walking to me, become the captive of this dream
Come into my arms, say you are mine, my princess
Come walking to me, become the captive of my dream
Come into my arms, say you are mine
In the dream of saṃsāra, you, my prince
(You, my prince…)
Dream your dreams, become the keeper of this dream
Come into my life, say you are mine, my princess
Dream your dreams, become the keeper of my dream
Come into my life, say you are mine
In the dream of saṃsāra, you, my prince…
In the dream of saṃsāra…
(You, my prince…)

Sansara Sihine Song Meaning and Interpretation
This one goes back and forth between a young woman and a young man, two people who feel they were always meant to find each other. The woman opens it: she says she has been standing on the path ahead, waiting, asking when her prince will finally come. The whole love story is set inside a “saṃsāra dream,” and that single word carries the heart of the song.
In Buddhist thought, saṃsāra is the long cycle of birth, death, and rebirth that every life moves through. When Sinhala lovers reach for it, they are not talking about one lifetime of love but love that has followed them across many lives, the belief that two souls keep finding each other birth after birth. So when she calls him “my prince in the dream of saṃsāra,” she means he is the one she has been waiting for not just now but through ages, and finding him feels like waking inside a dream she has dreamed for lifetimes. The picture of him giving “love like a rainbow” through half-closed eyes is that first soft, shy look between two people who already sense they belong together.
From there the song becomes a gentle call and answer. He asks her to walk to him and become the captive of his dream, to come into his arms and simply say she is his. She answers in the same shape, asking him to dream the dream with her, to come into her life and call her his own. The words barely change between the verses, and that repetition is the point. It feels like a vow said over and over, the way you keep telling someone you love them because once is never enough.
What you are left holding is something tender and certain. There is no heartbreak here, no waiting in pain, only two people stepping into each other’s lives as if it were always written, asking the other to stay across this life and the next.
