Dili dili dilee sevi ma daese aaloke

Kavdo maanaa balanne obe langa ma inne...
Kavdo maanaa balanne obe langa ma inne...
Hitavata me loke boruwenda jayaganne
Hitavata me loke boruwenda jayaganne
Sathura samanga sinaasi mithura se inne
Sathura samanga sinaasi mithura se inne
Aesbandumak vaage me lo thale
Mohotin bidee yaavi situ saemade...
Apage sihina paaruwe paavi

Dili dili dilee sevi...
Kavdo mava paana maayavaki
Obage lagin inne chaayavaki
Ohuge daesa oba soyaa yanne
Sagawa rahasa nae preme danne
Mal vara vee yauwane sal vane aadare..
Dili dili dilee sevi...
Dili Dili Dilisevi Lyrics English Translation
Shimmering, shimmering, the light glows in my eyes
Shimmering, shimmering, the light glows in my eyes
Who is it watching, when I am right here beside you…
Who is it watching, when I am right here beside you…
My dear, in this world is it by lies that one wins?
My dear, in this world is it by lies that one wins?
Smiling with an enemy, staying close like a friend
Smiling with an enemy, staying close like a friend
This whole world is like a spell cast over the eyes
In a moment everything you dreamed can break apart…
Drifting on the little boat of our dreams
This life floats far out across the sea..
Youth flowers and falls, and so does love in the forest of falling blossoms..
Shimmering, shimmering, the light glows… //
Whatever it is, it is an illusion someone conjures
The one standing beside you is only a shadow
His eyes go searching for you
The hidden secret, love does not know
Youth flowers and falls, and so does love in the forest of falling blossoms..
Shimmering, shimmering, the light glows… //

Dili Dili Dilisevi Song Meaning and Interpretation
A man is speaking to the woman he loves, and there is a wariness running underneath his tenderness. Even with her right beside him, he senses other eyes on her, someone watching, waiting, measuring the distance between them. So he turns to her with a question that is really about the whole world: in a place like this, is it the people who lie and scheme who come out ahead? He has watched it happen, a person who smiles at an enemy and stands close as if a friend, and it has left him uneasy about how much of what he sees can be trusted.
That unease opens into the heart of the song. He calls the world an “aesbandumak,” literally a binding of the eyes, the old word for a sorcerer’s trick that makes you see what isn’t there. To a Sri Lankan listener that lands hard: everything around us is a piece of stage magic, and in a single moment all the things you dreamed of can fall to nothing. He pictures the two of them adrift on the small paru boat of their dreams, carried out onto the open sea, life itself floating away from solid ground.
The line he keeps returning to is the saddest and the most Sinhala of all. “Youth flowers and falls in the sal forest of love.” The sal tree blooms and lets its blossoms drop in heaps, and that image of flowers opening only to scatter is the standing picture for how quickly youth and beauty pass. He is saying their young love is exactly like that, lovely now, already on its way to the ground. By the last verse the warning sharpens. The figure beside her, he says, is only a shadow, an illusion someone has conjured, while another man’s eyes keep searching for her, carrying a secret that love itself cannot read.
What the listener is left holding is not a simple love song but a tender kind of disenchantment. He loves her, yet he cannot stop seeing how easily this world deceives, how soon youth scatters like fallen blossoms, and how thin the line is between what shimmers in front of us and what is really there. The brightness in his eyes and the ache of doubt sit side by side, which is what gives the song its quiet, lasting sadness.
