Shihan Mihiranga

Shihan Mihiranga (ශිහාන් මිහිරංග), full name Shihan Mihiranga Bennet, is a Sri Lankan singer, composer, and songwriter who came to wide notice as a finalist on the first season of Sirasa Superstar in 2006. Known for a soul and R&B inflected pop style, he became one of the most recognizable young voices of the late 2000s Sinhala music scene.

Early life and Sirasa Superstar

Mihiranga was born on 18 March 1985 in Weliweriya, near Colombo, into a musical household. He took part in school singing competitions before auditioning for the inaugural season of Sirasa Superstar. He placed fifth in the 2006 final yet was widely regarded as the season’s most popular contestant, a contrast that set the tone for a career built on a devoted listener base rather than contest rankings.

Career and music

His debut album, Dreams of Shihan (2006), collected the Most Popular Album award, and his 2007 music video for Ada Thaniyen Maa won the Most Popular Music Video honour at the Derana awards that year. Beyond his own releases, Shihan Mihiranga has written and composed for other singers, contributing to tracks performed by Shani Angela and Shahil Himansa, and sharing the duet Hitha Adare Soya with Nadini Premadasa. He has also worked as a playback singer for Sinhala cinema.
