Oba nathi da, ma lagin ma sithin, oba giya kiya..Ada Thaniyen Ma Lyrics English Translation
Today I won’t cry alone
Leaving me, saying she has gone away.. leaving me…
To hurt my heart, today I have no one with me
Saying you are not here, away from me, away from my mind
Saying you have gone
Loneliness has come, today, to my heart, to my life
Loneliness has come, today, to my heart, to my life
You know, today I am left alone, holding only your name
The pain hidden in my heart welled up without ever telling me
The pain hidden in my heart welled up without ever telling me
Now that you are gone, away from me, away from my mind, saying you have left..

Ada Thaniyen Ma Song Meaning and Interpretation
A young man has been left by the woman he loved, and the song is him sitting alone with that on the first day she is really gone. He opens by almost trying to convince himself he won’t break down and cry, but the very next line gives him away. She has walked out, and all he can do is repeat to himself that she left, as if saying it over and over might make it feel less impossible.
The feeling moves from that first stubborn “I won’t cry” into the truth he can’t hold back. The loneliness has settled into his heart and into his whole life now, not just for tonight but as the new shape of his days. The line about being left “holding only your name” is the quiet heart of it. She has taken everything else, her presence, her company, the future they had, and all he is left with is the name itself, a word he can say to no one. He is alone in her name, alone because of her, alone with nothing but the memory of who she was.
The strongest image comes at the end, where he says the pain hidden in his heart “welled up without ever telling me.” In everyday Sinhala this is the way you describe grief that you tried to bury and that surfaced on its own, tears that come before you decide to cry. He thought he had it under control, the way he did in the very first line, but the sorrow rose up by itself and gave him no warning. That is the ache the song leaves you with: a man telling himself he is fine while the loss quietly proves him wrong.
