Ai Napuru Song Meaning and Interpretation
This is a plain, aching heartbreak song, and it does not dress the pain up in much metaphor because it does not need to. A young man is being hurt by someone he loves, and his first line is almost a plea: if you only knew how much sorrow is in my heart, you would never be this cruel. He says his heart is bruised, he has cried, and he cannot take much more, yet he promises to wait until she finally understands him.
The refrain is the rawest part. My heart burned, it cracked, and I cried where you could not see, he repeats, and that hiding is the whole ache of the song. He keeps his tears secret so as not to burden her, holding the sorrow himself so that she can go on smiling.
What makes it hurt is his own helplessness. Every time she scrapes at his heart he lets it pass as if he never felt it, and he admits he cannot heal himself by hurting her back.
