Waramala

Waramala Lyrics English Translation

Waramala flower, you drift there freely,
did the fierce wind turn its disguise
at the sight of delicate you?
tickling, soothing, deceiving,
seeing the soft wind change its guise,
it stole you away, waramala flower

The dewdrop resting on a bare petal,
the wind that overturned it, I distrust it for your sake,
is it here again to frighten you?
delicate waramala flower, you

Upon your crystal petals of a thousand rays,
the seven radiant beams of light,
a mind-capturing form,
a celestial maiden of boons,
that delicate one,
waramala flower, you

Waramala Song Meaning and Interpretation

A lyrical, protective ode to a flower, the waramala, which stands throughout for a delicate, beautiful woman. The singer watches her drift lightly on the breeze and wonders whether the fierce wind itself turned its disguise at the sight of her, softening into something tickling and soothing, only to deceive, and then steal her away. The wind is the world’s charm and danger, drawn to her fragility.

The middle deepens the worry. He notices a single dewdrop trembling on a bare petal, and distrusts the wind that overturned it, asking, is it back again to frighten you? The whole verse is tenderness edged with fear, a lover afraid that something so delicate will be knocked loose and lost.

The close turns to pure wonder. On her crystal petals of a thousand rays fall seven beams of radiant light, and she becomes a celestial maiden of boons, a heavenly figure whose form captures the mind. Sung by Hiran Kanchana, composed by Tharindu Damsara, it is a delicate, worshipful song that treats a woman as a fragile, luminous flower, adored and quietly guarded against a world that might steal her away.
