The sun burns, and you cool it away,
you tire, and become a house of sighs for the heart,
and yet it is you who stir the mind’s longing,
it was the sun, the sweet moon, not the night,
I stay here, close to you, for your loneliness,
in an endless sky where moon and star remain
To sing the beauty and virtue of the full moon,
there is no leave but the full-moon day,
and out of that moon’s dim half-halo,
a broken heart-womb cannot be rebuilt,
little star…..
on the night the sun is gone, you still have the moon
All night long you poured out love,
and when the sun rose, you wished that same comfort,
making a single night’s love equal to a whole day,
the star is you, the one who lets this moon go free,
little star…
on the night the sun is gone, you still have the moon

Punchi Tharuwe Song Meaning and Interpretation
A tender, image-woven song of companionship, built entirely from sun, moon and star. The sun burns, the singer says, and you cool it away; you tire, and become a house of sighs for the heart, and yet it is you who stir its deepest longing. He stays close, he says, for her loneliness, in an endless sky where moon and star remain together, two small lights keeping each other company.
The middle turns on the moon. To truly sing the beauty and virtue of the full moon, you are granted only the full-moon day, the rare perfect moment; and out of the moon’s dim half-halo, a broken heart cannot rebuild itself. And the refrain, gentle and reassuring: little star, on the night the sun is gone, you still have the moon, when the greater light fails, a smaller, faithful one remains.
The close honours quiet devotion. All night she poured out love, and at sunrise still wished that same comfort, making a night’s love equal to a whole day. She is the star, he says, the one who selflessly lets this moon go free. Sung by Kanchana Anuradhi, composed by Tharindu Damsara to words by Yashodhara Devanthi Embogama, it is a delicate, consoling song about being a steadfast small light for someone, the star that keeps the dark company when the sun has set.
