Ithin Hinawemu

Ithin Hinawemu Lyrics English Translation

So let us smile now, hands entwined,
the battle is over, my princess,
let us walk slowly across a ground decked with flowers,
the love-song is not yet done

Thousands upon thousands of lamp-flames
go racing across the plain of the sky,
that I came, having stolen a moon,
will they ever see it, in the night?

The thin veil murmurs its stories
of the spring that dawns tomorrow,
you smile too, and I smile too,
in the pause when the world’s eyes close

Ithin Hinawemu Song Meaning and Interpretation

A gentle, hopeful love song sung after some hard time has passed. So let us smile now, hands entwined, it begins, the battle is over, my princess, and it invites the beloved to walk slowly across a flower-strewn ground, because the love-song, unlike the struggle, is not yet finished. Whatever the battle was, the mood is relief and renewal, love picking up where hardship left off.

The middle lifts into night-sky imagery. Thousands of lamp-flames, the stars, go racing across the plain of the sky, and the singer wonders whether, in all that vastness, anyone will notice the private miracle: that she came having stolen a moon, bringing a stolen brightness into the dark. It is the lovers’ secret set against the immense, indifferent night.

The close is intimate and quietly joyful. A thin veil murmurs stories of the spring that dawns tomorrow, of good things coming, and in the pause when the world’s eyes close, in a private moment away from everyone, you smile and I smile too. Sung by Reeni De Silva to music by Tharindu Damsara, it is a soft, tender song about finding peace and shared happiness together once the fighting is done.
