Rohitha Wijesooriya (රෝහිත විජේසූරිය, also romanized Rohitha Wijesuriya) is a Sri Lankan playback and stage singer associated with the older generation of Sinhala popular song. He is remembered for melodic numbers such as Binara Malee and Ma Saara Bhoomi Lanka, which remain in circulation across Sinhala music collections.
Rohitha Wijesooriya’s recordings sit within the classic Sinhala light-music tradition, the same vein of melodic, lyric-led song that defined Sri Lankan radio and stage of the period. His “Binara Malee” (බිනර මලී) shares its title with the season of binara blossoms that recurs often in Sinhala verse, and the companion piece Binara Malee Ekka Enna carries the same imagery into an invitation.
His patriotic number Ma Saara Bhoomi Lanka, which celebrates the fertile homeland, was set to music by the composer Rohana Weerasinghe and is dated by community lyric archives to around 1970. The song belongs to the strand of Sinhala music that praises the land and remains a familiar choice in that repertoire.
Each of these pages presents the lyrics in the original Sinhala script alongside an English transliteration and translation, so listeners can follow both the sound and the meaning of Rohitha Wijesooriya’s songs.
