Wasantha Thilakangani is a Sri Lankan singer of Sinhala popular songs, known for cover and remake versions of well loved numbers, most prominently a remake of “Epa Thawath Oba”. The recording circulated widely on Sri Lankan music download platforms and remains the song the artist is most identified with.
Most of Wasantha Thilakangani’s catalogue dates to the early 2010s, when singles were released through Sri Lankan music portals such as Hiru FM Music and Ananmanan. The remake of “Epa Thawath Oba” was by far the most downloaded, and the song appears in more than one version. A studio recording of it credits music to Rohana Weerasinghe with lyrics by Bandula Nanayakkarawasam.
The duet “Hima Diyawi Himalaye” (හිම දියවී හිමාලයේ) pairs Wasantha Thilakangani with the veteran singer Amarasiri Peiris, and it is among the artist’s better known recordings. Other titles in the catalogue include “Handannata Hakinam”, “Premaye Seethalama”, “Sitha Ridawa” and “Mathaka Bana”.
