Eral Fernando (also spelled Errol Fernando) is a Sri Lankan vocalist of the calypso and baila tradition, remembered for upbeat Sinhala recordings of the 1970s era performed alongside the band Fortunes.
Eral Fernando worked in the lively English-baila and calypso style that filled Sri Lankan dance halls and stage shows through the 1970s. Much of his recorded output survives on later live anthologies of the period, including the Stars of 70’s and Calypso Carnival series, where he appears with contemporaries such as Sepala Gunasekara, Christine Gunawardana and Raymond Fonseka.
His best known number, Udarata Manike (උඩරට මැණිකේ), credited to Eral Fernando and Fortunes, remains a staple of Sri Lankan calypso compilations. The name appears on streaming services in two romanizations, Eral Fernando and Errol Fernando, both pointing to the same performer.
Each page presents the song in Sinhala script with an English transliteration (Singlish) and translation, giving diaspora listeners the meaning behind these Errol Fernando favourites.
Every Sinhala lyric, composition, and song credit by Eral Fernando.
