Lahiru Perera (ලහිරු පෙරේරා), who performs under the stage name La Signore, is a Sri Lankan singer, composer, and music producer best known for the 2009 hit “Rambari” and a run of stylish pop singles released under the La Signore name. Born on 18 April 1984 in Kehelbaddara, Udugampola, he became one of the more recognizable voices in contemporary Sinhala pop from the late 2000s onward.
Perera grew up in Udugampola, in Sri Lanka’s Western Province, and was educated at D. S. Senanayake College in Colombo. He later studied at APITT in Sri Lanka and at the SAE Institute in Singapore, training that fed directly into his work as a producer and arranger rather than only as a performer.
His breakthrough came with “Rambari”, recorded and released around 2008 to 2009 with lyrics by Manuranga Wijesekera, a writer who would go on to collaborate with him repeatedly. The song became a fixture of the Sri Lankan music scene, won Music Video of the Year at the Derana Music Awards 2010, and remains a popular wedding and party track. Its playful lyrics riffed on everyday Sri Lankan life, from food and cricket to weather and romance.
Working as both singer and composer, Perera built the La Signore brand of singles, many of them duets and collaborations. He composed and sang Dum Dum with Marisha and China Town featuring Randhir Witana, two of the brand’s signature releases. He has also composed for other artists, including a collaboration with Umariya Sinhawansa.
Lyrics-lk hosts a broad selection of Perera’s catalogue, both his solo material and his work as La Signore. Notable entries include:
Perera has appeared on Sri Lankan television as a coach on The Voice Teens Sri Lanka and as a judge on TV Derana’s Derana 60 Plus. He also founded La Signore The Fragrance, a perfume and cologne line that borrows the stage identity he built through his music.
