This is a song from a younger brother to his older sister, his akka, the one who helped raise him. In Sri Lankan families an elder sister often steps into a mothering role, and that is exactly the bond here. The singer is overflowing with gratitude and love, and the whole song is his attempt to put into words a debt that feels too big for words. He keeps asking himself how he could ever say these things, how he could ever repay her, how he could ever forget what she did. In the end all he can offer is a blessing: jayamangalam, a wish of victory, good fortune and well-being sent to her from the bottom of his heart.
