Randhir Witana (often listed simply as Randir, රන්ධීර් විතාන), born 30 April 1986, is a Sri Lankan singer, rapper, and songwriter from Colombo. He came up through the country’s early hip hop scene and went on to build a catalogue that moves between rap, pop, and melodic Sinhala songs, which is why his name appears under both spellings, Randhir and Randir, across lyrics sites.
Randhir was educated at Royal College, Colombo, and started out as a member of Brown Boogie Nation, one of the first hip hop groups in Sri Lanka, alongside Subodha Pilimatalawwe and Nishan Dias Weerasinghe. The group’s late-1990s recordings were among the earliest Sri Lankan hip hop tracks to reach radio and national television, and that grounding in rap stayed audible in his later work even as he moved toward pop and what he calls Asian pop.
In 2013 Randhir released his debut solo single Namal Mitak (නාමල් මිටක්), which he composed himself, with production by Sachith Peiris. The song introduced him as a solo artist and remains one of his best-known recordings. He had earlier crossed paths with the hip hop duo Bathiya and Santhush, featuring on their remix work, and that connection runs through several of his collaborative tracks.
Randhir’s softer, melodic side shows in Siyumaliye and Sudu Kirilliye, both built around music by producer Ken Lappen. He has also recorded as part of larger ensemble projects, including the BnS-led Lassana Desak Dutuwa Nisa and Mal Madahasa Peedena with Umariya Sinhawansa, and the multi-artist Carlton Super 7 Theme Song alongside Iraj Weeraratne. Other duets pair him with Lahiru Perera on China Town and with Ashanthi on the large group recording Meena Dasa Asha.
As one of the artists who carried Sri Lankan hip hop from its underground beginnings into mainstream pop, Randir continues to record and perform, and Lyrics-lk presents his songs with Sinhala lyrics, English transliteration, and translation for listeners at home and in the diaspora.
