A young man is so taken with the girl he loves that he can’t describe her in plain words, so he reaches for flowers, springtime and bees instead. The song opens on the moment her smile lands on him: flowers seem to bloom, and the worry sitting in his chest just lifts and disappears. That is the feeling the whole song lives in, the lightness of being looked at kindly by the person you love.

Her blue eyes are called his good fortune, his vāsanā, the kind of luck you feel grateful for rather than the kind you win. When he says she walked the same path with him through saṃsāra, the cycle of birth and rebirth, he is using a deeply Sri Lankan idea of love.
