Sili sili sulangin, keewe rahasin
Yali oba ma wetha, e yai wigasin //Meedum Selen Pavi (Sawan Remix) Lyrics English Translation
The dream of the monsoon rains, the wind carries it away
My heart sways like a peacock dancing in the forest
Floating on a cloud of mist, in the cool of this evening
If you come to me, I’ll give you the warmth of these hands of mine
Now…
In the soft, whispering breeze, it told me a secret
That you are coming back to me, and soon

Meedum Selen Pavi (Sawan Remix) Song Meaning and Interpretation
A young man is waiting for the one he loves, on a cool evening with mist drifting in, and his whole heart is leaning toward the hope that she will come back. The song moves between Hindi and Sinhala, which is part of its style as a remix, but the feeling underneath is one steady thing: longing softened by hope.
The opening reaches for the monsoon. In this part of the world the rains of Sawan are the season of romance and reunion, the time when the parched land drinks again and lovers long to be together, so when he says the wind carries the dream of the rains away, he is naming the ache of wanting that closeness and feeling it slip just out of reach. Then his heart sways like a peacock dancing in the forest, and that image is everything, the peacock opens up and dances when the first rains come, so comparing his heart to it tells you the joy is not calm. It is the wild, can’t-sit-still happiness of love arriving with the rain.
From there the mood turns tender and close. He pictures himself floating on a cloud of mist in the cool of the evening, a dreamy, weightless feeling, and offers her the simplest thing he has, the warmth of his own hands, if only she will come. That contrast of the cool evening and the warmth he holds out is the heart of it: he wants to be the one who keeps her warm.
The last lines are where the hope settles. The soft rustling breeze, the kind you barely hear, whispers a secret to him, and the secret is that she is coming back, and soon. It is the trick of a man in love, the wind says nothing, but he hears in it exactly what he is praying for. The song leaves you on that gentle promise carried on the air, more wish than certainty, and that is what makes it ache so sweetly.
