Kavikariye Lyrics English Translation
Feeling your warmth, what I felt beside you was like magic
It’s true, my love, you came rising like the moon
The shadow of your passionate eyes set my heart alight
You are my season of love //
My poetess (my poetess)
Give me a kiss (give me a kiss)
In the depth of your eyes, a season of dreams
Enchanting words (enchanting words)
Pouring all night long (pouring all night long)
I’m caught up in your playful eyes
Our love is now like a verse of poetry
Our love is now a verse of poetry
Feeling your warmth, showing the feelings on your lips
My fingers ran across your cheek, giving it a soft caress
The shadow of your loving glances left me intoxicated
You’ve come, haven’t you, my season of love
My poetess………………………..

Kavikariye Song Meaning and Interpretation
A young man is wrapped up in the woman he loves, and he can barely find words for what she does to him. He calls her his “kavikariye,” his poetess, the woman who makes poetry out of him, and the whole song is him telling her that being with her feels less like ordinary life and more like living inside a poem.
He keeps reaching for the warmth of being close to her. Feeling her warmth, a kiss on the lips, fingers brushing her cheek, these small, tender touches are what the song is built on, and each one leaves him a little dizzy. The arc here is not heartbreak or longing from a distance; it is the happy, intoxicated feeling of new love that is going well, the kind that keeps you up all night and makes everything glow.
The imagery is all about light, season, and poetry, and it helps to know what those stand for in a Sinhala love song. When he says she rose “like the moon,” he is using the moon the way Sinhala lyrics always do, as the image of calm, gentle beauty, soft light in the dark rather than something dazzling, so her arrival soothes him. The recurring phrase “pem vassane,” the season of love, leans on the monsoon rains: in Sri Lanka the rains are what bring life and growth, so calling her his rainy season means she is the thing that makes him bloom. That is why “enchanting words pour all night long” like rain. And the song’s whole conceit, that their love “is now like a verse of poetry,” is the highest compliment a Sinhala speaker can pay something: poetry is where the deepest feelings are kept, so to say love has turned into verse is to say it has become beautiful and lasting.
What you are left with is the simple, full feeling of a man who can’t believe his luck. He is not aching for someone far away; she is right there, her eyes full of dreams and mischief, and all he wants to do is name the magic of it. By the end the love itself has become the poem, and he is content just to live inside it.
