Divurala pawasanna mata aadare nam

/Diwrala Pawasanna Lyrics English Translation
Swear to me that you really love me
That in my whole world it’s only you I think of
It’s the truth, my love, until the day I die
You alone are my heart, I give it to no one else
Hiding the sun in your hands, you rise upon a strip of cloud
Stirring all seven seas, you come to me
To live forever in that smile of yours, through saṃsāra (the cycle of rebirth)
Will you be my bed of soft flowers always, my love?
Pressing your delicate fingertips firmly to my heart
You lay me down to rest, spreading a canopy of stars across the sky
Every time I let out a sigh, you are the one I am thinking of
Sleep now, my jewel, held close in my arms…
Hiding the sun in your hands, you rise upon a strip of cloud… /

Diwrala Pawasanna Song Meaning and Interpretation
A young man is asking the girl he loves to say it out loud, to swear that her love is real. That is where the song opens, with a small, tender plea that anyone who has ever loved unsurely will recognise. He is not playing it cool. He tells her plainly that in his whole world there is only her, that this is the truth and it will hold until the day he dies, and that his heart belongs to no one else. The promise runs both ways, he wants her vow and he is offering his own.
From there the song lifts into something almost dreamlike. He pictures her hiding the sun in her cupped hands and rising up on a ribbon of cloud, stirring all seven seas as she comes to him. In Sinhala song these are the images you reach for when an ordinary person feels larger than the whole world to you. The sun cradled in her hands, the seven seas moving at her approach, none of it is meant literally, it is the way love makes one girl feel as vast and powerful as the sky and the ocean. He wants nothing more than to stay inside that smile of hers, not just for now but right through saṃsāra, life after life, and he asks if she will always be his “bed of soft flowers,” the soft, gentle place where his heart can rest.
The last verse pulls everything back down to something quiet and close. Now it is her resting against him, her slender fingertips pressed to his heart, and he is the one watching over her as she falls asleep. He imagines spreading a canopy of stars across the sky just to cover her, a lover turning the whole night into a roof above her head. Every sigh that escapes him, he says, is for her.
What you are left with is the full circle of how this love feels to him. It begins as a nervous question, swear that you love me, and ends with him holding her while she sleeps, calling her his jewel, the night soft around them. The grand pictures of suns and seas are really just his way of saying one simple thing, that this gentle girl in his arms is his whole world, and he wants to keep her there for every life to come.
