Maa paethu ee yuga neth aadhara hith aadharenin hamu weemayi himiwu...
Daetha dara....
Daatha Dara Lyrics English Translation
The way you come with both arms holding me, and sit beside me with such love
I slip out of my trance, my feelings at your feet, all my composure breaks, so sweet beside you
Let’s spend the night wrapped in each other, the moon risen, silk clouds spread across the sky
Those longing eyes I prayed for, these loving hearts, finally meeting in love is what I have been given…
Lovely and dazed with love, a smile in your eyes, drawing closer still, I weave my love into garlands
You who brought a cool dew into my summer, you put out my fire, and I will stay with you forever
Like the moon across a field of stars, I write my love on a cloud
Let’s spend the night wrapped in each other, the moon risen, silk clouds spread across the sky
Those longing eyes I prayed for, these loving hearts, finally meeting in love is what I have been given…
With both arms holding me….

Daatha Dara Song Meaning and Interpretation
A young man is lost in the wonder of being loved back. The song opens on the simplest, most disarming thing: the way she walks up to him, takes him in both arms, and just sits close with love in her eyes. That image alone undoes him. He says he slips out of his trance, the word he uses, dahena, is the deep, still focus of meditation, so what he means is that her nearness pulls him out of every other thought and lays all his feelings at her feet. Whatever calm or composure he was holding onto breaks the moment she is beside him, and he loves that it breaks.
The middle of the song is all about coolness and relief. He calls her a cool dew brought into his summer. In Sri Lanka the dry heat of the season is something everyone feels in the body, and dew or a cool breeze is the standing image of relief, of being soothed. So when he says she put out his fire and he will stay with her forever, he is describing a longing that was burning in him until she finally answered it. Now it is quiet. He can rest.
The imagery he reaches for is all night sky and softness, and it is worth noticing why. He pictures spending the night wrapped together under a risen moon with silk clouds spread across the sky, and he says his love is like the moon among a whole field of stars, that he writes his love onto a cloud. The moon in Sinhala song is the image of a calm, gentle beauty, light that settles you rather than excites you, and that is exactly the feeling here. Loving her is not a storm, it is the stillness after one. Writing his love on a cloud is the gentlest way of saying it feels boundless and a little unreal, too big and too soft to hold.
What the song keeps coming back to is gratitude. The eyes he says he prayed for are finally looking at him, the two loving hearts have actually met, and he treats it as something given to him rather than won. That is what stays with you at the end, not the rush of new love but the deep, settled relief of a longing that was finally answered, sung as tenderly as a lullaby.
