He pictures her holding a handful of flowers, and from there the song never quite leaves that tender, dreamlike feeling. He isn’t telling a story so much as letting you stand inside how love has rearranged the way he sees everything.

The images he reaches for are all gentle ones, and that is the point. He calls her “the treetops and the blossoms” on the bank of “life’s wide river,” which is his way of saying that as he travels through his life, she is the green and the bloom of it, the part that is alive and beautiful.
