Devashrie de Silva, who records simply as Devashrie (also spelled Devashree), is a Sri Lankan singer, songwriter and stage performer active across pop, film playback and devotional music. She is widely known for her 2013 duet with Amal Perera, Hanganna Bari Wevi Adare, and for a steady run of singles and collaborations in the years since.
Devashrie began performing music at a young age and built a reputation on the live circuit as much as in the studio. One of her notable stage credits was the role of Christine Daae in a local production of The Phantom of the Opera. She later pursued a Master’s degree in Performing Arts in the United Kingdom, returning to Sri Lanka during the COVID-19 lockdown when a planned London audition was interrupted.
Her breakthrough with a wide audience came through Hanganna Bari Wevi Adare, the Amal Perera duet released in 2013 as part of the “Bombs & Roses” project. The song remains the work most listeners associate with the name Devashree, and it sits alongside a catalogue that ranges from film songs to covers and devotional pieces.
She has worked repeatedly with singer and producer Billy Fernando, who contributed mixing, mastering and guitar arrangement to several of her recordings. She later married Fernando and is a frequent featured vocalist in his concert band 2Forty2, fronting singles such as “Dhoni” and “Ran Tharu Payana”. Their collaborations include the 2018 cover “Susudu Rella” and the devotional duet “Sema Mohothe”. Other releases include “Premaloke” from the film Moda Tharindu, the multi-artist single “Hiri Poda Wahala” (with Lanthra Perera and Apeksha), and contributions to tribute recordings for H. R. Jothipala. In December 2020 she released “Lowa Nissala”, a Christmas single reworking an earlier Billy Fernando composition about the night of Christ’s birth.
As a performer who also writes and teaches, Devashrie works comfortably across romantic pop duets, film songs and Christian devotional music, and she has kept an active presence as a recording artist and music educator.
