2Forty2 (2ෆෝටි2, often stylised 2FORTY2) is a Sri Lankan concert band led by frontman Billy Fernando, known for its soulful remakes of Sinhala evergreen hits alongside its own original songs. A large live act, the group performs in Sinhala, Tamil, Hindi, English and Spanish, and has built a wide following among Sri Lankan listeners at home and across the diaspora.
Built around a twelve-piece stage line-up, 2Forty2 folds classical, Latin, reggae and pop textures into its arrangements, which is what gives its versions of familiar Sinhala songs their full-band character. The band performs regularly in Sri Lanka and for diaspora audiences abroad, and draws over a million monthly views on YouTube. Much of its catalogue reworks older classics, including a 2024 Tribute to HR Jothipala dedicated to the songs of HR Jothipala, and a remake of CT Fernando‘s “Mee Amba Wanaye”.
2Forty2 is led by its founder Billy Fernando on lead vocals and guitar. Its core lineup is:
For its full concert sound the band grows to roughly twelve players, adding Heshan Joseph (guitar and backing vocals), Shevon Rajasekera (piano and backing vocals), Sithara Fonseka (keyboards and backing vocals), Lahiru Fernando (percussion) and Stephanie Pereira (vocals). No former members are on public record.
The band frequently features the singer Devashrie de Silva, who is married to Billy Fernando, as a guest vocalist. Her voice leads 2Forty2 releases such as “Dhoni” and the band’s remake of the Keerthi Pasquel classic “Ran Tharu Payana”.
Among the band’s own Sinhala songs is Huru Buti Mama Chooti (හුරු බුටි මම චූටි), a light, playful number that stands as one of 2Forty2’s recognisable originals rather than a cover. Its Sinhala lyrics, transliteration in English (Singlish) and English meaning are presented on its song page.
