Raini Gunathilaka (රයිනි චාරුකා ගුණතිලක), also known professionally as Raini Charuka and credited in some releases as Raini Goonatillake, is a Sri Lankan playback and pop singer. She is the elder daughter of singer Rookantha Gunathilaka and singer Chandralekha Perera, and she built her own following in Sinhala popular music rather than relying solely on the family name.
Raini Charuka was born on 10 April 1991 in Colombo into one of Sri Lanka’s best known musical households. Her father’s 1997 album was titled Charuka after her, and she appeared alongside him in jingles, radio sessions and stage work from a very young age. Her sister, Windy Goonatillake, also followed the family into music.
Raini Gunathilaka launched her recording career in 2009 with the single Neela Kandugate, produced by her father and featuring Gayan Perera. From there she moved into a steady run of singles and collaborations, and she later became a familiar face on Sri Lankan televised music, including coaching duties on a national singing competition. Her studio output has drawn millions of streams on digital platforms, with songs such as Chanchala Daase and Nobala among her most played.
Several of Raini Charuka’s recordings are duets and features. Her duet Mathakada Handawe pairs her with Ruwan Hettiarachchi, and her 2012 work includes the Malwaaram material. Across these releases she favours melodic, emotionally direct Sinhala pop, often arranged to sit comfortably between the older nadagam and modern radio sound her parents are associated with.
As a second-generation artist, Raini Gunathilaka represents the continuation of a singing dynasty while keeping a contemporary, audience-facing presence of her own. Lyrics-lk hosts her Sinhala lyrics with English transliteration and translation, which lets diaspora listeners read along with songs such as Chanchala Daase and follow what Raini Charuka is singing line by line.
