Sanjeewa Liyanage (විශාරද සන්ජීව ලියනගේ), who records under the project name Kafee, is a Sri Lankan singer, composer and guitarist based in Colombo. He writes, sings and arranges his own songs, and is known on Sinhala radio for tracks such as Kawadawath and Kola Sandawatha.
Liyanage carries the Visharada title (a Sinhala honorific for a graduate of formal classical music study), and works mainly as a guitarist and vocalist. Alongside performing, he teaches guitar and violin in and around Colombo, including the Maharagama, Nugegoda and Dehiwala areas, and performs with guitar accompaniment at private functions.
His songs have circulated on Sri Lankan music platforms since the early 2010s. The ballad Kawadawath, with lyrics by Dr. Shiromi Arunatileka, became one of his most downloaded tracks and remains his best-known recording. He has also served as music director on the feature film Jeewithe.
As Kafee, Sanjeewa Liyanage leans toward soft, melody-led Sinhala songs built around acoustic guitar, the same instrument at the centre of his teaching. He both composed and wrote Kola Sandawatha, and composed the other tracks hosted here, reflecting a writer-performer approach where the same musician shapes the tune, the words and the arrangement.
