Madu Madawa Aravinda (also spelled Madhumadhawa Aravinda or Madumadawa Aravinda, මධුමාධව අරවින්ද) is a Sri Lankan singer, songwriter and actor, born 6 March 1973 in Kandy. He is best known for a small but well-loved set of songs, among them Lamba Sawan Ran Patin and Sith Sith Sith, which remain in steady rotation with Sinhala listeners.
Aravinda was raised in a household steeped in music. His father, Sunil Siriwardana, was a musician, and his mother, Susiri Siriwardena, wrote song lyrics, so he grew up around composition and performance rather than discovering them later. His full name is recorded as Gajanayake Arachchige Madhumadhawa Aravinda Siriwardana. His younger brother, Dananjaya Siriwardana, became a screen actor, and the wider family includes other performers and music teachers.
Madhumadhawa Aravinda has been active in the industry since 1989, drawing on pop, soul, rhythm and blues, and Indian classical influences rather than a single style. He recorded comparatively few songs across his career, yet several of them found a lasting audience. He has also served as a past president of the Sri Lanka Singers Association and has appeared as an actor in films including Aba (2008) and Siri Daladagamanaya (2014).
His best-remembered recordings include the melodic Lamba Sawan and Sith Sith, both of which gained wide popularity, along with the wistful Muhuda Handana Welawe (මුහුද හඬන වෙලාවේ) and Kowula Amathanu. These songs, more than any chart count, are what keep his name familiar to Sinhala audiences and to chord and lyric communities online.
For listeners searching under the spelling Madumadawa Aravinda, these are the same recordings; the romanization varies but the songs do not.
