Pop Punk (also written PopPunk) is a contemporary Sri Lankan music project working in the Sinhala pop and urban scene. The name appears alongside a string of collaborative singles released through the late 2010s and into the 2020s, in which Pop Punk pairs original production with guest vocalists drawn from the island’s pop and rap circles.
Pop Punk is best documented through its features. The single Pahasak brought in vocalist Raini Charuka, while Mal Wasanthe (Diganthe) was cut with Indrachapa Liyanage and the Sinhala rap collective Drill Team. The 2018 release Champa (චම්පා) is among the act’s better-known tracks. This collaborator-led approach, building tracks around a featured singer, is the through line across the catalogue.
