Tharaka Gunarathne (also spelled Tharaka Gunarathna) is a Sri Lankan singer active in the contemporary Sinhala music scene, known for romantic singles released through the late 2010s and early 2020s. He is most widely recognised for “Ma Oba Hamuwana Dinaye”, a collaboration with composer Pasan Liyanage that became one of his signature recordings.
Tharaka Gunarathne built his audience through a series of single releases rather than albums, a pattern common to his generation of Sri Lankan vocalists. His best-known song, “Ma Oba Hamuwana Dinaye”, was issued in 2018 with music by Pasan Liyanage and circulated widely on Sinhala streaming and radio platforms. Later singles such as “Sanda Du” (2020) and “Daiwaye Saradamin” (2021) kept him active across the early 2020s.
