Digu Dasa Dutuwama Lyrics

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Digu dasa dutuwama, hengenawa pera sema
Unnu heti mage gawa, oya hithata amathakada
C G C G (G/F#/F)
Binda dama mage sihine, aida oba hengenne
Mata denna mage sihine, langa inna pera waage

Ra diwa hitha pura, awilila me ginna
tharu pawa handanawa, obata na therenne
Hithata ida himi nethida ahanawa hitha maage
Mata denna mage sihine, langa inna pera waage

Pera eda hamuwela windunu heti mudu pahase
Penenawa dakinawa, nihanda ra dura ahase
Durama misa langa nethida, ahanawa nethu maage
Kawadada oba enne, nethuwada hamuwanne

Digu Dasa Dutuwama Lyrics English Translation

When I gaze at the wide horizon, you appear, just like before
The way you used to be beside me, have you forgotten that?
Breaking my dream apart, why do you slip away and hide?
Give me back my dream, stay close to me like you once did

Night and day this fire burns through my whole heart
Even the stars are weeping, but you don’t understand
Is there no room left for me in your heart, my heart keeps asking
Give me back my dream, stay close to me like you once did

The way we met back then, that gentle, tender touch
I see it, I picture it, in the silent, distant night sky
Only the distance, never you near me, my eyes keep asking
When will you come, or will we never meet again?

Digu Dasa Dutuwama Song Meaning and Interpretation

A young man is missing someone he loved and lost, and he can’t get her out of his head. Every time he looks up at the wide open sky she comes back to him, the way she once was, close by his side. The song lives in that gap between then and now: she used to be right there, and now she is only a picture in his mind. He keeps asking the same wounded question, has she forgotten everything they had?

The feeling builds from quiet longing into something that hurts. He talks about a fire burning through his heart day and night, the restless ache of someone who can’t move on. Then comes the line that gives the song its weight: even the stars are weeping, but you don’t understand. In Sinhala love songs the night sky and the stars often stand in for the lover’s own grief, the whole world seems to cry with him while the one person he wants stays distant and unmoved. He is not just sad, he feels unseen.

What he is really chasing is a dream. He keeps begging, give me back my dream, stay close like before, and the dream and the woman have become the same thing. He can still feel that first soft touch from the day they met, and he replays it against the silent, faraway sky, the kind of empty late-night quiet anyone who has lain awake missing someone will know. There is only distance now, never her warmth beside him.

The song ends not with comfort but with an open, aching question, when will you come, or will we never meet again? He has no answer, and that uncertainty is the whole feeling. It is the loneliness of holding on to someone who lives now only in your memory and the night sky, hoping against the odds that one day she might come back.
