Sanahaalaa kalaa aaraadhanaa
Peeraa pema seeraa
Noasaawee lande maa kaaranaa
Numbe naembul sinaa sanda selen wasaa

The moon’s shadow rises,
soothing me, it made its invitation,
combing through love, scratching it raw,
oh don’t ask me the reasons, my girl
Veiling your dimpled smile with the moon’s own cloth,
let us go beyond the path of the stars, calling it love,
you will ask about me, this time, won’t you,
and may there be no aches, no pain
All through the time I saw you even in my dreams,
I was joined to you through your eyes,
I’ll be content just watching from afar, I told myself,
because it was all a dream made of dreams,
but now I gaze with wide-open, loving eyes,
never leaving you, there where you painted your colours,
you will ask about me, this time, won’t you,
and may there be no aches, no pain
The love-lady I longed for with my eyes closed
was matched, at last, with your own beauty,
beyond love, and this side of tears,
a love-song, a prayer, was sung
Hearing those enchanting words in love,
saying that you whom I loved are mine,
you will ask about me, this time, won’t you,
and may there be no aches, no pain

Wimasavi Song Meaning and Interpretation
A gentle, poetic love song whose refrain is a tender hope: wimasaawee numben maa, you will ask after me, and nomadewee ridum ho wedanaa, may there be no aches or pains. It opens in soft moonlight, the moon’s shadow rising and making an invitation, and the singer, his love combed through and scratched raw, gently begs the beloved not to ask him for the reasons behind his feeling.
The middle traces how his love outgrew a dream. For a long time he saw her only in dreams, joined to her through her eyes, and told himself he would be content just watching from afar, since it was all a dream made of dreams. But now, he says, he gazes with wide-open, loving eyes and will not leave her, there where she has painted her colours into his life; the dream has become real, and he can no longer go back to admiring from a distance.
The close is fulfilment softened by tenderness. The love-lady he once longed for with his eyes shut has finally been matched by her real beauty, and somewhere beyond love and this side of tears a love-song and a prayer are sung. Hearing her enchanting words, that he, whom she loved, is hers, he returns once more to his gentle wish: that she keep asking after him, and that no pain ever touch them. Sung by Sajeewa Dissanayake, it is a delicate song about a dreamed-of love becoming real, and the wish to keep it free of hurt.
