Fill T (also written Fill-T) is a Sri Lankan rapper, record producer and performer, one of the earliest names in the Sinhala hip hop scene and best known for the street anthem “Ape Paththe Mara Siddi” (අපේ පැත්තේ). Based in Colombo, he built a sound that sets blunt social commentary against beats that draw on local rhythms, rapping in Sinhala about the city, poverty, and everyday Sri Lankan life.
Fill T emerged from Colombo’s underground rap circuit and became a reference point for Sinhala-language hip hop, a space where most early local rap leaned on English. He raps in Sinhala, which is a large part of why his work travels among Sri Lankan listeners at home and in the diaspora. His 2012 release Welikada and the widely shared single “Ape Paththe Mara Siddi”, whose music video has drawn well over twenty million views, established him as one of the genre’s most recognisable voices.
His writing favours wit and observation over polish, and his subjects are deliberately ordinary: the neighbourhood, the street vendor, the texture of life in Colombo. That grounding in place is what separates Fill-T’s records from imported hip hop styles.
Among his most played tracks are “Ape Paththe Mara Siddi”, “Colombo”, “Kasippu”, “Malli” and “Shanthi”, the last a collaboration with fellow rapper Smokio. He has also worked across the local rap community with peers in the Sinhala hip hop and cypher scene, and his catalogue runs from solo cuts to features and posse tracks.
As an artist who proved Sinhala rap could carry both popular appeal and pointed social comment, Fill T helped open the door for the wave of Sri Lankan hip hop that followed. Lyrics-lk hosts his songs with Sinhala lyrics, transliteration and English translation, so listeners can follow the wordplay that made tracks like “Ape Paththe” stick.
