Smokio (ස්මෝකියෝ, also styled Kevin Smokio) is a Sri Lankan rapper, singer, and lyricist from Colombo, one of the more recognisable voices in the country’s Sinhala rap and street hip-hop scene. He first drew attention through the rap crew 44 Kalliya and a 2016 breakout single produced with Iraj Weeraratne, and has since built a following around aggressive, slang-heavy tracks rooted in Colombo’s underground.
Smokio began rapping professionally around 2014 as a member of the Colombo crew 44 Kalliya (also written “Durty 4 Four”). The crew put him in contact with producer Iraj Weeraratne, who signed him and produced his breakout single Mudukkuwen Eliyata in 2016. The track, which has Smokio credited as both performer and lyricist, remains the song most closely associated with the early part of his career.
After a period away from music, Smokio returned around 2020 under the name Kevin Smokio, opening a second phase of his career that leaned further into melodic and street-anthem styles.
Beyond his debut, Smokio is known for crew-tied tracks such as Kalliya and Weedi Mayam (44 Kalliya), the melodic Liya Liyaa Dun Adare Ma, and the sports-themed Cricketians. His catalogue mixes hard-edged Sinhala rap with more tuneful, hook-driven releases.
Smokio writes and performs largely in colloquial Sinhala, drawing on the language and imagery of Colombo street life. As Kevin Smokio he has remained active in the Sri Lankan rap scene, where his releases regularly circulate among hip-hop listeners online. Lyrics-lk hosts the Sinhala lyrics for his tracks with English transliteration and translation, including Mudukkuwen Eliyata and Liya Liyaa Dun Adare Ma.
Every Sinhala lyric, composition, and song credit by Smokio.
