Sisira Senaratne (සිසිර සේනාරත්න; also spelled Sisira Senarathne and Sisira Senavirathna) was a Sri Lankan singer, composer, and lyricist whose duets with his wife, the singer Indrani Wijebandara, helped shape Sinhala popular music from the 1950s onward.
Senaratne was born on 29 March 1935 in Chilaw, in what was then British Ceylon. He began performing in an era when Sinhala song was moving away from borrowed North Indian melodies toward forms rooted in local language and folk idiom. Across a career that ran for more than six decades, he worked as a stage and radio singer and contributed playback vocals to Sinhala cinema.
Senaratne married Indrani Wijebandara in 1962, and the two became one of the best known husband-and-wife singing pairs of their generation. Many of his recordings are credited to the duo, and their light, melodic duets carried a warmth that kept them in rotation on Sinhala radio for decades. Several of those duets are among the songs hosted on Lyrics-lk.
Beyond the songs featured here, Sisira Senarathne is remembered for recordings such as “Seeta Diyareli,” “Nuhuru Nupuruda,” and “Gaya Geethayan Game,” titles that placed him firmly in the canon of mid-century Sinhala song.
Senaratne died on 4 February 2015 at the age of 79. He is remembered, alongside Indrani Wijebandara, as part of the generation that ushered in a new era of Sinhala music, and his gentle melodic style still draws Sri Lankan listeners at home and across the diaspora.
