Funky Dirt (ෆන්කි ඩර්ට්) is a Sri Lankan pop group from Colombo, formed in 2007 and known for upbeat, youth-oriented Sinhala singles such as Ada Ape Thaththa and Bus Eke Dakke. The trio built much of its following through music videos that circulated widely on YouTube and Sri Lankan radio in the 2010s.
The group was started by three friends who met at Isipathana College, Colombo. The core members are commonly credited as Murshad (also known as Mura), Shenal, and Ridwan (Ridzy), with Shenal handling much of the music production. Their sound sits in the contemporary Sinhala pop space, leaning on catchy hooks, light electronic production, and lyrics aimed at a young, urban audience.
Funky Dirt’s breakthrough came with Ada Ape Thaththa, an early single whose video drew strong online viewership and helped establish the group beyond Colombo. That momentum continued with Bus Eke Dakke, a song that earned recognition at the Derana Music Video Awards, where the group also collected new-artist honours.
The group’s catalogue mixes love songs and lighter, comic everyday-life themes. The single Pem Jawsam features singer Dulakshana Achintha, while a separate collaboration paired the group with Yohani, one of the most widely streamed Sri Lankan voices of the era.
