Kalpana Nayanamadhu (කල්පනා නයනමධු, also spelled Kalpana Nayanamadu) is a Sri Lankan singer and multi-instrumentalist who emerged on the contemporary Sinhala pop scene with the 2016 single Ashawari (ආශාවරී). Working across pop, RnB, and classical-tinged arrangements, Nayanamadhu built an early following through a sound that pairs melodic Sinhala songwriting with a polished studio production style.
Nayanamadhu’s debut Ashawari, with lyrics by Kelum Srimal, was the track that introduced the singer to a wider audience; its music video circulated widely and kept the song trending for an extended run after release. The success of that first single opened the way to collaborations with a range of composers, songwriters, and record labels on later work.
A trained musician with a background on guitar, keyboard, and violin, Nayanamadhu studied at Dharmaraja College in Kandy before pursuing higher education in Colombo. That instrumental grounding shows in the arrangement-driven feel of the recordings.
