Adare Oben Danunu Tharam (Obagen Tharam) Lyrics Singlish

Adare oben danunu taram
Dani dani hitama velu taram//
Jivithe sathuta me taram
Nae danune me loke
Mata labunu obagen taram//

Oba mevu pada pelin
Ma hade geethayak liwa
Nomekena pada walin
Jivithe thanuwa mama liwa
Upadeena mathu hama bhawe
Mang innawa obage
Paputhurule unuhuma vela.....

Katu mathin yana jivithe
Mal walin api sarasamu
Obe handum mage kiya
Samasithin api vindagamu
Mang innawa obage
Paputhurule unuhuma vela//

Adare Oben Danunu Tharam (Obagen Tharam) Lyrics English Translation

The way I felt love from you,
the way it kept wrapping itself around my heart,
this much happiness in life
I have never felt in this world,
not as much as what I got from you.

With the lines of verse you made,
I wrote a song inside my heart.
With words that will never be rubbed out,
I wrote the melody of my life.
In every birth I am born into after this,
I will be there,
the warmth held in your arms.

This life we walk across thorns,
let us cover it with flowers.
Calling your tears my own,
let us bear them with one mind.
I will be there,
the warmth held in your arms.

Adare Oben Danunu Tharam (Obagen Tharam) Song Meaning and Interpretation

A man is telling the woman he loves that nothing in his life has come close to what she gave him. He is not describing a first meeting or a chase. This is the voice of someone already loved, already settled into it, looking at the person beside him and saying out loud that this is the best thing that has happened to him. The opening lines keep circling the word tharam, “the extent of it”, as if he is trying to measure something he cannot measure.

The second verse turns her into a writer without her knowing it. He says the lines of verse were hers and the song was written in his heart, and then he goes further: the melody of his whole life was written with words that cannot be erased. For a Sinhala listener that pairing of pada (the words) and thanuwa (the tune) is the way a song is actually built, one person writes the lyric, another sets it to music. He is saying she supplied the words of him, and he only put them to a tune. It is a quiet way of admitting she shaped who he became.

Then comes the line that lifts the song out of ordinary romance. He promises that in every birth still to come, in every bhava of saṃsāra (the Buddhist cycle of rebirth), he will be there as the warmth in her arms. Sri Lankan love songs reach for this often, and it carries real weight here, because a Buddhist listener hears a claim that one lifetime is not enough. The image he chooses is small and physical rather than grand. Not a king, not a star in the sky, just the warmth of a body held against the chest, the paputhurula, the same word used for how a mother holds a child.

The last verse is the most honest one. He does not pretend the road is soft. Life goes over thorns, and his answer is not to remove them but to lay flowers along the way, and to take her crying as his own so the two of them carry it with one mind. That is where the song lands. What he is offering is not rescue, only company, and the promise that the warmth will still be there in the next life and the one after that.
