Madu Mala Lesa Lyrics
Madu mala lesa mrudu maage priyadara mihiraviya vetatai
Oba sihi kara kara obata liyanna eka mata athi eka sathutai
Apamana situvili bihivi therapili ekineka patalenne
Kohoma patangenna monava liyannada netha mata vatahenne
Ketiynen pavasami mage aadhariye keemata athi samade
Parevi rajiniye eda vage adath
Obata thavama mama aadharayi..
Madu mala lesa maage mrudu priyadara mihiraviya vetatai
Oba sihi kara kara obata liyanna eka mata athi eka sathutai
Hitha golu venava atha vevulanava hadavatha gassenava
Lipiyehi kolayata muhuna yomanakota neth deka piyavenava
Ketiynen pavasami mage aadhariye keemata athi samade
Parevi rajiniye eda vage adath
Obata thavama mama aadharayi..
Madu Mala Lesa Lyrics English Translation
To my soft, sweet love, gentle as a honey blossom
The one joy I have is to write to you, thinking of you all the while
Countless thoughts are born and crowd in, tangling into one another
I can’t work out how to begin or what to write
In short, my love, here is all I have to say
My dove queen, just like back then, even today
I still love you..
To my soft, sweet love, gentle as a honey blossom
The one joy I have is to write to you, thinking of you all the while
My heart goes silent, my hand trembles, my chest pounds
When I lower my face to the page of the letter, my eyes close
In short, my love, here is all I have to say
My dove queen, just like back then, even today
I still love you..

Madu Mala Lesa Song Meaning and Interpretation
A young man sits down to write a love letter, and the whole song is that one quiet moment, him at the page, trying to put into words what he feels for the woman he loves. He pictures her as he writes, and the simple act of writing to her is, he says, the one joy he has. That is where the song lives, not in some grand gesture but in the small, tender ritual of a letter.
The opening image is “මදු මල ලෙස,” gentle as a madu mala, a honey flower, soft and sweet. In Sinhala love song this kind of flower image stands for someone delicate and dear, the sweetness you want to be careful with, and he uses it to set the tone for everything that follows. The other pet name he gives her, “පරෙවි රැජිනියේ,” means “my dove queen.” The dove (parewi) carries gentleness and faithfulness in Sinhala, and pairing it with “queen” turns it into a fond, almost worshipful nickname. When he says “just like back then, even today, I still love you,” he is telling her nothing has changed since the early days of their love.
The most honest part comes in the second verse, when he admits how hard the writing actually is. His mind floods with so many thoughts at once that they tangle together and he cannot decide where to start. His heart goes mute, his hand shakes, his chest pounds, and the moment he lowers his face to the blank page, his eyes simply close. Anyone who has ever frozen up trying to say “I love you” on paper will know exactly this feeling.
So he gives up on saying everything and settles for saying the one thing that matters. “In short, my love, here is all I have to say.” After all the trembling and the tangled thoughts, it comes down to a single line, that he loves her now as much as he did at the start. The song leaves you with the warmth of that, the way real feeling often refuses to be dressed up and just spills out plain and true.
